Next Saturday the 12th, one of the most important events in Altea will take place: the Castell de l’Olla festivities. This spectacular celebration attracts a large number of tourists each year. If you want to know all the details about the 2023 edition, keep reading this post—we'll tell you everything!

What is Castell de l’Olla?

The “Castell de l’Olla” (also known as “Castle of the Pot”) is a very famous fireworks display that is held annually in our municipality. It takes place at La Olla Beach, a picturesque cove.

The “Castell de l’Olla” event is known for its spectacularity and beauty. It consists of an impressive display of fireworks launched from platforms set up in the sea, creating a unique combination of colors, lights, and reflections on the water. The fireworks are synchronized with music and choreography, adding a special touch to the show and making it an unforgettable experience for viewers.

This celebration attracts a large number of tourists and locals each year. In addition to the fireworks, the event usually includes cultural and festive activities such as concerts, dances, and other artistic performances.

When is it celebrated?

The Castell de l’Olla is celebrated in honor of Saint Lawrence, taking place every August 10th. Therefore, the show is held on the nearest weekend to this date.

This festivity began over three decades ago as a tribute to the local pyrotechnician Blas Aznar. Over time, it has evolved significantly, incorporating synchronized musical rhythms with the fireworks and the gathering of boats in the bay to enjoy the impressive Castell de l’Olla.

The celebration has been declared a Fiesta of Autonomic Tourist Interest and attracts over 50,000 people each year, who delight in an extraordinary display of lights, fireworks, and sound in a truly special destination.

This year's edition

One of the most notable changes this year is the change in pyrotechnician. Although the event will still be managed by the Cofradía del Castell de l’Olla, the position previously held by Pepe “Barranquí,” who passed away in February 2022, will be taken over by the new generation of the Cofradía.

If you want to enjoy this incredible show this year, you can do so at La Olla Beach from 8:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Don’t miss it!

Don’t forget to book your stay at a charming hotel to fully enjoy the Altea festivities.
